Samael, also Samail, Samael (Ancient Hebrew סמאל‬ ← סַם‎ [sam] "poison" + אֵל‎ [el] "god") is the chief of demons, a destructive force, and the angel of death in the Talmud. He is in eternal confrontation with the archangel Michael (Michaiel). The enmity between the two incorporeal spirits began from the very day Samael was cast down from heaven: the fallen angel attempted to drag Michael down with him into the underworld.
